Renewing Your License

การต่ออายุใบขับขี่

Notes on converting a temporary 2 year Thai driving license into a 5 year license, based on a recent (July 2026) renewal at the Department of Land Transport (Bang Chak) by a French national.

When to go?

Do not wait too long after your license has expired.

You may have to retake the theory exam or sit through the training video again.

Before You Go

Book an appointment on DLT Smart Queue.

Appointments are rare and can be very far-away in the future, anticipate.

This is mandatory, they might not let you through without a QR code.

Originals to Bring

Copies

Bring one full set of the copies below per license you are renewing.

Fees

On the Day

Show up early and properly dressed. This is a government office, so beachwear is not the thing to turn up in.

When the staff call for foreigners, go straight to the foreigner queue.

Expect around two hours in total. It can take considerably longer if you arrive late and end up waiting through the lunch break.
